• Abstract

Culture and tradition are two different things that go hand in hand in the lives of every social group. With these cultures and traditions, each community group will have characteristics that can distinguish one community group from another. Naturally, these communities will adapt to their culture and traditions, in their new habitat, so that the boundaries of the communities brought with them will fade and disappear. Other than that, there are also community groups that managed to maintain these constraints consistently in the new neighborhood, so that they could survive. This study attempts to see the consistency of the Karonese village in preserving the tradition in Tebing Tinggi city, Indonesia. This study employed qualitative approach. The data were then obtained through observations carried out in the village of Karonese Village in Tebing Tinggi city, interview, and library research. From the analysis, it was found that the majority of Karonese managed to maintain their traditions amid different social groups. More than that, the location is also far from the native territory of the community. . Although they can live side by side in harmony with the communities that live near their villages, the people of Karonese village do not want to lose tradition as their identity. Therefore, the people of the village of Karo collectively taught a variety of traditions that their ancestors used to follow downwardly in their places of origin. Some of these traditions are, “Rakut Sitelu”, “Merga Silima”, “Tutur Si Waluh”, annual work, guro-guro aron, and some traditional food that they still make.
