• Abstract

This article discusses the effectiveness of patient acupressure therapy at Taixi KD-3 and Zusanli ST-36 points in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by lowering their blood sugar levels. Diabetes mellitus, especially type 2, relies on tight glycemic control, but the best available treatment has some drawbacks, so researchers are interested in alternative therapies. This study was quasi-experimental in which pre- and post-treatment approaches were used, and 54 uncomplicated type 2 DM patients were selected. The results showed a mean blood sugar level decrease of 105.9 mg/dL with a standard deviation of -9.1 mg/dL and p-value = 0.001, which is statistically significant. The authors concluded that patient acupressure therapy at Taixi KD-3 and Zusanli ST-36 used by a person significantly decreased blood sugar levels and could be used as adjuvant therapy in type 2 DM. These findings need to be corroborated, and the mechanism of action must be investigated further.
