• Abstract

Tidal floods have transformed into a serious threat in the coastal area of Sayung, Demak, Indonesia. The disasters, which afflict recurrently and in the long term, will have an adverse effect on the territorial resilience of the impacted areas. Disasters constitute disruptive phenomena in the national resilience system in a broad scope. Territorial resilience is a micro form of national resilience, and hence, the study of territorial resilience is emphasized at local government levels, e.g., provincial and regency, and on all systems which become subsystems within a region. This research is aimed at analyzing tidal flood implications for territorial resilience using a qualitative method with a case-study approach. Results demonstrated that tidal floods had an implication for gatras (aspects) of national resilience. Several aspects with significant effects in the static aspect were geographic, demographic, and natural resources, while in the dynamic aspect, tidal floods impacted economic and socio cultural aspects.
