• Abstract

This study explored how women farmers in Konda District, South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, navigate changes in gender roles and socio-economic dynamics in the informal sector. This type of research was descriptive qualitative using a case study approach. The subjects in this research were farming households. Research informants comprised all elements involved in rice farming activities and the informal sector. Farming women and farmers were the main informants; The village head/head of the farmer group was the key informant, and the agricultural extension officer was selected as the supporting informant. The informant selection technique was carried out using the snowball sampling method: first, the researcher looked for key informants who had in-depth knowledge of the focus of this research. Data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and participant observation. The collected data was analyzed using category analysis and theme analysis models. For data validity techniques, researchers used source triangulation and technical triangulation. The research results showed that changes in the gender roles of women farmers in the informal sector occur in terms of access to resources, division of productive, reproductive, and social work, and participation in decision-making. The strategies used to navigate changing gender roles and socio-economic dynamics in the informal sector are adapting to economic and social changes, challenging traditional gender roles, adapting to new opportunities, using social networks, and mastering new skills
