• Abstract

    An update of the global trend toward the sustainable use of natural resources and minimization of the economy's dependence on traditional energy sources is a necessary stage of society's development within the concept of climate change prevention and sustainable development. The article aims to study the main trends in using renewable energy sources in the business sector as part of the sustainable development strategy. The study employed general research methods, such as generalization, comparison, systematization and abstraction, analysis, synthesis, and specification. The authors analyzed the effectiveness of implementing "green" energy principles in Europe and Ukraine. The article highlighted certain institutional and economic instruments of the "green" energy concept. They are considered to be effective in foreign practice in terms of full or partial replacement of traditional resources with alternative energy sources. The article substantiated the need to increase the share of renewable resources in the national energy sector. The authors identified the potential for economic incentives and motivation of businesses to switch to renewable energy sources to reduce emissions and increase climate change resilience. This study has proved the importance of reducing the use of exhaustible resources and minimizing emissions into the atmosphere in order to decrease the anthropogenic burden on the environment. The practical significance of the results of this study is seen in the possibility of their application for optimizing the socioeconomic development of Ukraine in terms of implementing elements of a sustainable climate course and intensifying the efficiency of renewable energy resources.
