• Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is a musculoskeletal disease that presents in a degenerative and chronic form, is characterized by anatomical and / or physiological disorders. Knee OA is responsible for causing pain in about 9.6% of men and 18% of women over the age of 60 and with more than 200 million people affected worldwide. It was verified in previous studies that OA patients submitted to treatments with the use of KT reported beneficial effects after its application, including improvements in pain perception, increased physical function, among others, since KT improves patellofemoral alignment by reducing pressure and the stress imposed on soft tissues. The aim of the present study is to identify the effectiveness of using kinesiotape in improving pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. This study is an integrative literature review with a systematic search. The surveys were carried out between March and April 2021. The databases are: Medline, Wiley, BVS and PEDro. The initial research consisted of 150 articles, with only six being selected; articles that addressed the theme according to the cited descriptors and those categorized as clinical trial type were considered. In the results, it is observed that the use of the Kinesio Tape device can improve the perception of pain in elderly patients of both sexes with knee osteoarthritis. However, there is no standardized technique in order to make it more practical for users.
